Mocha sleeping

Mocha sleeping

I noticed today that Mocha had some blood in his stools, so I took him up to the vet to get him checked out.

Turns out he has a bout of gastro-enteritis. He’s been put on antibiotics for a week but otherwise he checks out ok.

I contacted the cat rescue people about Mocha’s health history, just in case there was something I should know about.…

Ripley and Mocha

Here’s Ripley and Mocha showing some brotherly love in their new home:

Mocha and Ripley are my two new cats which I adopted from a cat rescue center when then were 3 months old (in Jan, 2014).

They’re brothers and a condition of adoption was that I would have to adopt both as they were very attached to each other.

Ripley is on the right at the start of the video and Mocha is in the left.…

Mocha and Ripley The Day I adopted them

I’ve had my new cats, Loki and Lir for for a few days now and I can’t say I really like their names. These where the names given to them by the cat rescue people so I’ve renamed them. Naming cats is always tough, I find, as I try to pick names that are reminiscent of their character or reflect some unique physical feature.…

Frotz Peering Through Bushes

My favorite photo of Fritz

It’s been about a week since Fritz died and I’m really missing the company of a cat. Being at a loose end, I’ve found myself looking online for people selling or giving away tabby kittens.

I’ve felt guilty doing this but then I realized that the need to have a cat is a testament to the companionship that both Fritz and Kira gave.…

Even though the copy alone had already made her giggle, WDBJ7’s Susan Bahorich, professional Weekend Morning Anchor that she is, believed she could make it through a fluff piece on a fat cat that has taken to swimming in order to lose weight.

But barely ten seconds into the segment, Bahorich descent into laughter had reached the point of no return and it was only a matter of time before the copy became unintelligible and the snorting began.…

Meet Caffrey: The two-legged 13-year-old Persian that makes the Hang In There kitten look like a pussy.

Ten years ago, Caffrey lost his left hind leg after getting run over by a car.

His left front paw was also badly damaged, but it was saved thanks to a series of operations that set his owner Sue Greaves back about $5,450.

Four months ago, Caffrey’s mobility again faced uncertainty when his vet found a malignant tumor on his left front leg.…

Oscar nominee James Cromwell was arrested Thursday while protesting experimentation on cats at the University of Wisconsin.

Cromwell, who played the loveable farmer Hoggett in Babe, burst into a University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents meeting holding up large poster of a cat, which appeared to have a metal clamp implanted in its head, and shouting.

PETA uploaded video of the incident to YouTube and claims the university’s experiments on cats aimed at helping the deaf are cruel and have not been successful.…

Frotz Peering Through Bushes

It took a bit longer than expected but the results of all of Fritz’s blood tests are now back.

He definitely doesn’t have a thyroid problem. That’s been confirmed. And his kidneys are fine (they’re actually working very well for a 17 year-old cat).

However, he does have liver problems probably brought on by an impairment of how his bone marrow is working.…

I called into the vet today to get a progress update on Fritz.

He was successfully rehydrated overnight and ate a good big meal last night but today hadn’t eaten all that much. He’s peeing freely which is good but no bowel movements as yet so the vets can’t assess if all is ok there yet.

Fritz when he was about 6 years old

He’s put on about 0.2Kg overnight, most of which is due to fluid replacement.…

Fritz Sleeping

Fritz, my remaining elderly cat (he’ll be 18 in April), hasn’t been well for the last couple of weeks. He’s suffered from asthma for several years now but giving him tablets regularly has pretty much kept that under control except for the odd coughing fit.

Here he is, sleeping in his cat igloo

He also has arthritis as so so many old cats.…
