Ripley's Ringworm - Under His Nostril

Yay! A Christmas present from my cat.

Ringworm.

Great. Another vet visit to check out the weird colouration under his left nostril (see the pic above) which turns out to be ringworm. Irritation from that explains why he was constantly licking his nose.

He was thoroughly scanned and examined to see the extent of the infection and it looks like only that part of his face is affected.…

Ripley reclining in his hammock

Last night, I noticed that Ripley was having difficulty urinating again and cystitis has reared its head again. He’s been hopping in and out of different litter trays trying to urinate with little success.

I’m just back from the vet and they’ve taken him in for observation. They had to use a needle to extract urine from his bladder due to the blockage in his urethra.…

Ripley On The Bed

I brought Ripley up to the vet to see how he was progressing after he was put on medication for a bald patch he’d scratched on his neck that I discovered about 2 weeks ago.

The antibiotic tablets weren’t a success. They’re large for cat and he had to get two per day. By day 6, he was vomiting up the tablet given at night.…

The health disaster that are my two cats continues. There’s not a month that goes by that I don’t have to bring one of them to the vet for some complaint. Last month it was Mocha, yesterday it was Ripley.

What Problem This Time?

Ripley On The Bed

I just collected Ripley from the vet where’s he’s been under their care for the last 2 days.

The urine test showed that there had been a buildup of crystals in his bladder and these had deposited in the urethra to cause the blockage that prevented hin from urinating.

The vet manually manipulated the urinary tract to get the urethra flushed out.…

Ripley On The Bed

While Ripley’s cystitis has never fully gone away, the discomfort he felt was managed by a daily dose of Metacam. He suffers from Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), a condition where cystitis is triggered from an unknown cause, but usually stress-related. What that stress factor is can be very difficult to diagnose.

However, a little over a week ago I noticed he was straining when trying to urinate and that very little urine was being expelled.…

Mocha & Ripley Sleeping Together

Today was a big day for both Ripley and Mocha. It is the first time they got their annual booster shots. There was no way I was going to allow them outdoors without them first having their vaccinations. They also got microchipped.

Neither of my previous cats was microchipped, so I was curious about what was involved. The chips are bigger than I thought and cylindrical and they look to be between a 5 and 10 millimetres long.…

Ripley and Mocha

Here’s Ripley and Mocha showing some brotherly love in their new home:

Mocha and Ripley are my two new cats which I adopted from a cat rescue center when then were 3 months old (in Jan, 2014).

They’re brothers and a condition of adoption was that I would have to adopt both as they were very attached to each other.

Ripley is on the right at the start of the video and Mocha is in the left.…
